Type Locality and Naming
Karasburg Basin, Southern Namibia, named after the Aussenkehr area along the Orange River. Upper formation in Ecca Gr in Karasburg Basin

Predominantly grey and olive-green shales, siltstones, and rhythmically interbedded fine-grained sandstones.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformably overlies the prominent, black, carbonaceous shales of the Whitehill Fm.
Upper contact
Conformably overlain by the marginal-marine and deltaic sandstones of the Amibberg Fm.
Regional extent
Restricted to the Karasburg Basin in southern Namibia, representing the local basin fill above the Whitehill marker horizon.
